St. Paul, Minnesota — Microchurches

Steve Erickson was ordained in 2015 and has planted numerous “traditional” churches throughout his ministry. More recently, however, his entrepreneurial leadership has led to microchurch development and multiplication throughout neighborhoods and suburbs of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area.

Through training, coaching, and resourcing the leaders of each microchurch, the movement has grown rapidly to 35 microchurches across the Twin City metro, meeting in homes, businesses, coffee shops, schools, and even in a prison with 100 disciple-making missionaries actively engaged in multiplication. 12 of the 35 microchurches are second generation, having been started by others that grew and multiplied!

An example of this multiplication is Nick, a missionary in Frogtown, St. Paul, who began to strategically minister to men in a sober living house. One of those men, named Philip, came to faith in Jesus and was baptized in a bathtub in one of the microchurches. Now that Philip knows Jesus as Lord, he is being equipped to disciple the other men in the sober house where they have now started a Bible study — the potential “seedling” of another new microchurch!

Microchurches are identified by Cultivate when a group is on mission and has Biblically qualified leadership, worship, and teaching or study of the Scriptures.
